Milestone Unleashes First Screamer Gameplay Trailer, Revealing Chaotic Combat-Racing Hybrid

Milestone, the studio best known for its racing pedigree, has revealed a deeper look at the core mechanics of their newest title, Screamer, in a brand-new gameplay trailer that showcases a high-speed fusion of racing and combat. The game is slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Where Every Race is War

Set in the neon-soaked city of Neo Rey, Screamer introduces players to a world where races are more than just contests of speed—they’re acts of war. Drivers, known as Screamers, go head-to-head using a combat system driven by the mysterious power of ECHO, a sci-fi tech that turns every vehicle into a weapon of chaos.

The story promises a wide cast of rival racers driven by motives ranging from glory and revenge to power plays in a fractured future. It’s not just about winning—it’s about surviving, with each racer having their own path through Screamer’s explosive narrative.

A Combat Racer With a Twist

Milestone is bringing a new kind of driving system to the table with Twin Stick controls. The left stick steers, while the right stick manages drifting, allowing for precise cornering and intense chases through Neo Rey’s twisting highways. Players will also make use of:

  • Strikes to deliver offensive blows to rival cars
  • Boosts to surge ahead or escape danger
  • Overdrive, a high-octane mode that pushes the chaos to its limits

Defense will also play a key role, with more features to be revealed later.

A New Chapter in Arcade Racing

Unlike Milestone’s previous simulation-heavy work, Screamer aims to shake up the arcade racer genre with a mix of narrative-driven rivalries, brawler-inspired mechanics, and tight vehicular handling. From its richly stylized setting to its innovative combat system, it’s shaping up to be one of the more original entries in racing games in years.

Screamer is currently in development and expected to launch sometime in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
